Origin History

The name of the breed Ojos Azules Longhair is translated from Spanish as “blue eyes”. The breed was bred about thirty years ago in the United States. It was the result of a series of crosses, which were carried out for the sake of experimentation. After another crossbreeding, among the brood of kittens found one kitten who had unusual blue eyes. It turned out that the kitten was the owner of a special gene responsible for the azure color of the eyes.

Surprisingly, this breed had no connection with Siamese cats, which are known for their blue eyes. The Ojos Azules Longhair’s unusual eyes are the result of a mutation that started a new breed. The International Cat Fanciers Association adopted the Ojos Azules Longhair breed standard in 1991. The breed is quite rare and is best known in its home country in the United States.

Appearance

The calling card of the Ojos Azules Longhair is the large expressive, most often blue, eyes. The amazing thing is that these cats can sometimes have different eyes: one – from blue to blue, the other – from green to yellow. Representatives of this breed have an incredibly soft, long, and silky coat. According to the standards, various colors are allowed, except for white and himalayan colors.

These cats have a fairly strong build, a massive and flexible torso, a broad and well-developed chest. The limbs and tail of these pets are proportional to body size. The head has a triangular shape with pronounced cheekbones and chin. The ears rounded at the tips are of medium size.
