The history of Swiss Hounds goes back to the Middle Ages. Their ancestors were brought by the Greeks to Egypt and then to ancient Rome. Thanks to the trade routes, the breed came to the territory of modern Switzerland.

All varieties of Swiss Hounds are named after the area where they originated. Therefore, the Jurassic hounds got their name according to the Jurassic mountain system’s name in the Alps. The breed has an outward resemblance to the Belgian St. Hubert Hound breed.

The original purpose of Bruno Jura Hounds was to hike through mountainous terrain and hunt hare. Today the breed is popular in Europe and the United States.
