Origin History

The home of the Border Terrier is the border areas of England and Scotland. In the beginning, the dogs were used for hunting small animals such as foxes and badgers. Their size was perfectly suited for this purpose, which allowed them to get into caves without any problems.

The Border Terrier Club first appeared in 1920. By that time, the dog had already received its modern name and was widely used on farms and homes.

With their thick coat, the dogs could withstand all weather conditions well, and their long legs allowed them to keep up with the horses on the run. Nowadays, dogs are used as pets and even in nursing homes and hospitals.

Appearance

This terrier is considered the smallest of all working terriers. The weight can reach only 7 kg, and the height is no more than 40 cm. The physique is proportional and neat.

The hair of the border terrier is thick, stiff, and has an undercoat. It can be brown, red, wheat, blue and papal. Around the nose and on the ears, the color is often darker than on the body.

The Border Terrier has long paws that help him run fast. The dog has large, sharp teeth, has a beard on his muzzle, and eyebrows over his eyes. The eyes are dark in color.
