The Colorpoint Shorthair is a breed that was created artificially. In the 1940s and 1950s, several adventurous breeders decided that beautiful Siamese cats would look good colored with a red hue rather than the traditional black, chocolate, blue, or lilac. This breed was started by crossing the Siamese Strongpoint cat with the red striped American Shorthair cat. Currently, the Colorpoint Shorthair breed includes more than ten different colors. The body type and head of this breed are identical to those of Siamese cats.

Different organizations classify Colorpoints in different ways. The Cat Fanciers’ Association and the Canadian Cat Association state that the Colorpoint Shorthair is a breed that is registered as separate from the Siamese. At the same time, the International Cat Association recognizes the Colorpoint as a variety of the Siamese cat.

Appearance

Colorpoints are elegant and refined cats with a long body and thin bones. The legs are slender, the tail is long and tapering towards the end. The head of this breed’s cats is a triangle, the continuation of which is their long pointed ears. Blue almond-shaped eyes give brightness and unusualness in combination with the original coloring.

The coat of Colorpoints is short, shiny, and tight to the body.
