Origin History

The breed first appeared in the United States in 1982. In one of the farms in Dallas, an unusual bald kitten girl was born. They decided to keep her and named her Kerli. Four months later, the cat began to have curly hair. The owner became interested in the animal and began cross-breeding it with Mensa and Siamese cats. As a result, kittens are as curly as their mother was born. It indicated the presence of the dominant gene and marked the emergence of a new breed.

In 1987, the cat was first seen at a show. Only nine years later, the LaPerm was officially recognized by the International Cat Association. At the same time, the first standard of the breed was developed.

Appearance

The LaPerm Longhair is a medium-sized cat with a long, muscular body. The breed has a pronounced sexual dimorphism – cats are noticeably larger than cats. The cat’s neck is graceful and high, of medium length. The head has regular outlines, triangular wedge-shaped. The transition from forehead to broad muzzle is pronounced. The chin is strong; the cheekbones are high. The eyes are large, almond-shaped, slightly slanted. The ears rounded at the tips, widely spaced.
