origen de la raza est\u00e1 en 1980. La historia del Munchkin comenz\u00f3 en Luisiana, Estados Unidos. Una residente de Rayville llamada Sandra Hochnedel encontr\u00f3 un gatito callejero debajo de una furgoneta. La mujer confundi\u00f3 las cortas extremidades del gato con los efectos de una enfermedad. Una mora, que as\u00ed se llamaba la mascota, dio posteriormente descendencia con patas igualmente cortas. Sandra regal\u00f3 uno de los gatitos a una amiga, que empez\u00f3 a criar al gato. Las cosas fueron tan bien que pronto surgi\u00f3 una raza distinta llamada Munchkin Shorthair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El gato debe su nombre a los diminutos Munchkin ficticios de El Mago de Oz de Baum. La mascota se hizo tan popular tras una exposici\u00f3n en Nueva York, que tuvo lugar en 1991. El Munchkin pas\u00f3 a ser conocido como \u00abgato salchicha\u00bb o \u00abgato basset\u00bb. Cuatro a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, la raza fue reconocida por la Asociaci\u00f3n Internacional del Gato.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"apariencia\">Apariencia<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>El Munchkin se distingue claramente de otros gatos. Sus extremidades son de dos a tres veces m\u00e1s cortas con su longitud corporal normal que las de otras razas. Al mismo tiempo, la mutaci\u00f3n no afecta en absoluto a la columna vertebral. Existen dos variaciones en la longitud del pelo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La cabeza del Munchkin de pelo corto tiene forma de cu\u00f1a y est\u00e1 en proporci\u00f3n con el cuerpo. La frente plana se desplaza suavemente hacia una nariz de longitud media. Los ojos del gato tienen forma de almendra y est\u00e1n muy separados. Las caderas son firmes, el pecho es redondeado y la musculatura est\u00e1 desarrollada. Las extremidades traseras pueden ser ligeramente m\u00e1s largas que las delanteras. La cola del gato es fina, igual a la longitud del cuerpo. El pelaje es corto, suave y sedoso.
