apareci\u00f3 por casualidad en los a\u00f1os 80 en Estados Unidos. En 1983, Sandra Hochschedel, de Rayville (Luisiana), encontr\u00f3 un extra\u00f1o gatito en la calle. Confundi\u00f3 las cortas extremidades del gato con una anomal\u00eda, pero m\u00e1s tarde tuvo descendencia con las mismas patas. Esto significaba la presencia de un gen dominante debido a una mutaci\u00f3n. Sandra regal\u00f3 uno de los gatitos a un granjero llamado Cai Lafrance. \u00c9ste empez\u00f3 a criar al gato y, un par de a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, naci\u00f3 una raza distinta llamada Munchkin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1991, estos interesantes gatos se exhibieron por primera vez en una exposici\u00f3n en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York. La raza se convirti\u00f3 en un aut\u00e9ntico \u00e9xito; se le apod\u00f3 \u00abgato salchicha\u00bb por sus especiales extremidades cortas. Y el gato recibi\u00f3 su nombre por los diminutos Munchkin del libro de Baum El Mago de Oz. La primera organizaci\u00f3n que reconoci\u00f3 al animal fue la Asociaci\u00f3n Internacional del Gato. Ocurri\u00f3 en 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"apariencia\">Apariencia<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>La caracter\u00edstica distintiva de los Munchkins son sus extremidades. Son de dos a tres veces m\u00e1s cortas que las de otros gatos. Su cuerpo es alargado, con la espalda inclinada desde los hombros hasta la cola. El pecho es redondeado y las caderas son firmes. Los gatos son m\u00e1s grandes que las gatas. La cola corresponde a la longitud del cuerpo, no es gruesa y se estrecha hasta la punta. El pelaje es suave y sedoso, con un subpelo medio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El cuello del Munchkin es denso y musculoso, con gatos ligeramente m\u00e1s grandes que las gatas. La cabeza tiene forma de cu\u00f1a, proporcional al cuerpo. La frente es plana, la transici\u00f3n a la nariz es suave. El hocico es de longitud media con p\u00f3mulos prominentes. Los ojos de gato, grandes y almendrados, est\u00e1n bien abiertos.
