History of Origin
Mudi was bred in Hungary. The breeders did it so that the dog could help on the farm by herding livestock. After a while, the animal also became an excellent guardian of the estates. Mudi also worked and worked as a rescue. The dog’s qualities have only improved with each passing year.
World War II harmed many dog breeds. Animals were dying. Mudi was no exception. Dogs died either from starvation or from enemy firefights. To preserve the species, breeders decided to crossbreed Belgian sheepdogs with Border Collies. In this way, the Mudi has survived.
After the war, the Balkans became a new home for the Mudi ancestors. The people took the remaining dogs with them. There the Mudi continued their function as guards and shepherds.
Only a century ago, the first standard of the breed was proclaimed. The complicated history of breeding this breed has affected the character of the animal. The Mudi is a multi-faceted dog.
Appearance: height, weight, fur, color
Mudi is a medium-sized dog. The animal has a long head. According to the standard, males reach a height of 50 cm. Bitches are slightly lower – 45 cm. Weight of an adult dog – 17-22 kg. Bitches are always 2-3 kg lighter.
Although the Mudi has a long coat, it does not need special care. It is enough to wipe the pet after a walk with a damp towel. The color of the breed: black, ash, brown.
In most cases, the dog is hunted together. The likelihood of encountering a Mudi in the city center is very low. The police often use the Mudi to search for drugs. The Mudi is also a rescue dog.
The Mudi is a fast, brave dog. If the animal doesn’t like a new visitor or passerby in the street, the Mudi may bite. It’s important to note that if a dog attacks you, you don’t have to run away from it.
If the owner dreams of an obedient dog, he must show the dog that he is the leader before the training process. Absolutely everyone in the family will feel respected by the dog, but the Mudi will only obey one owner. If the dog is not trained correctly, you may encounter unwanted pet behavior. The dog’s courage must be controlled.
The Mudi is a very active breed. It needs a lot of long walks. In addition to training, the dog can be taken for jogging. You can also take the animal as a companion when the owner rides a bicycle. Mudi is not suitable for inactive people who like to lie on the couch.
A dog does not get along with all animals. Cats, parrots, and rodents are very inconsistent options. If future owners already have a dog or plan to get another puppy, the Mudi will get along with it.
Even though Mudi has a long, long coat, it is unnecessary to take care of it every day. It is enough to brush the animal once or twice a week. After a walk, the owner should wash the paws and wipe the coat with a damp towel. It will be enough. The owner needs to keep the dog’s ears and teeth clean. It will prevent infections from occurring.
A well-trained Mudi is an obedient dog that can work well with the herd and prove itself in obedience tests. However, the breed’s propensity for independent thinking means that owners must make training enjoyable. Training should be broken up into short sessions. It should be done to keep the dog from getting bored during training.
Mudi is a guard dog. She will bark when she hears or sees something suspicious. Owners need to teach the dog the “be quiet” command.
The first thing you should explain to your puppy is that the owner is the house leader, not him. Aggression and barking should be cut off immediately with punishment. If the owner takes care of the dog, then there will be idyll and understanding between him and the animals.
Mudi is a dog with good health and a robust immune system. The owner is unlikely to encounter any problems in this regard. But if there is a suspicious change in the animal’s behavior – you should immediately contact your veterinarian.
Mudi’s diet should be balanced. Natural foods should be introduced into the diet: meat, cereals, vegetables, and if the dog wants, fruits. Natural food, as well as premium food, is suitable for such a dog. The owner needs to make sure that the Mudi has access to water at all times.
