Origin History

It is now the only dog breed that has been bred in Argentina. Argentine scientist Antonio Nores Martinez used about ten dog breeds to generate it, and in the 1920s, he succeeded.

Antonio worked for a long time to breed a strong and, at the same time, non-aggressive Great Dane. The dog’s main task was to hunt prey.

For thirty years, the scientist perfected the breed with the help of other types of dogs. And in 1928, he succeeded, the breed was officially recognized.

For a long time, Dogo Argentino lived only in Argentina, and only in the 70s began to spread to the countries of the world. Now the breed is trendy in Italy and France.

Appearance

The Dogo Argentino is a vast and robust dog. The mouth can be 60 to 68 cm in male dogs and 60 to 65 cm in female dogs. The pet’s weight is also bulky – 45-65 cm for males and 40-55 cm for females.

The physique is muscular, powerful, gives the impression of a fighting dog. Usually, the nose at the lip of the dog has black pigmentation. The eyes are small, dark brown, or light brown.

The limbs are relatively long; the hindquarters are well muscled. The Dogo Argentino coat is short (no more than 2 cm), smooth, and is allowed to be pure white or white with one black or dark spot on the head. The ears are widely spaced one from the other, as are the eyes.

The condition of your dog’s eyes should also be taken into consideration – wash them regularly with chamomile tea, and consult a doctor if they become watery or red. Nails should be filed once a week, and paw pads should be checked after walks for cracks. If these appear, it is worth lubricating them with vegetable oil.

The dog should be trained from the first day in the house. Gradually introduce your dog to the easy commands, and then you can give the hard ones.
