History of Origin
A long coat of unmatched color and blue eyes! It is impossible not to notice the Neva Masquerade cat; it is the pride of Russian felinology. Some clubs consider it a separate breed; others define it as a subspecies of the Siberian cat. The cat got its name because of its city of residence and appearance. The breeding of representatives of this breed was first started in the Neva – St. Petersburg city.
The Neva Masquerade is a breed of Siberian cats with a special ornate color, its dark fur on its muzzle resembling a mask. It is the most independent, mysterious, mystical, and glamorous breed of cat. Neva Masquerade is a separate branch from Siberian cats, their closest relatives.
Because of their bright appearance, cats have become very popular in the former Soviet Union. Neva Masquerades are gladly accepted at various international cat shows. The Audience Award is always “in their pocket”.
Appearance: height, weight, fur, color
The Neva Masquerade breed is fully compliant with the Siberian cat standard but is bred in a separate, own color – colorpoint. Dark masks on the muzzle, paws, and tail are of darker color. Strongpoint, bluepoint, redpoint, tortoiseshell point, tabby, and all colors with white – this color variety can be found on Neva Masquerade cats.
Due to its colorful color, the Neva Masquerade looks like a glamorous “chick”. A cat with bottomless blue eyes, dressed in luxurious furs – the glamour of this cat is difficult not to notice. All victories at international cat shows remain for her; Neva Masquerade has no equals in her category.
The luxurious appearance is only one of the many advantages of the Neva Masquerade. This cat is very independent and, like a real lady, has perfect manners. Shrewd and intelligent, understand the owner with a word. As a true paragon of feline glamor, Neva Masquerade knows her worth. With strangers will behave aloof. But his master will always be gentle and affectionate.
The Neva Masquerade can be called a coy princess. She does not tolerate neglect and does not always allow a man to do with her what he wants. Not clingy in itself, completely self-sufficient, but not able to be alone for a long time.
Neva Masquerade cats are very fond of talking. They are constantly telling the owner and other family members they live in something in their language. If you like cat meows and purrs, you should consider getting a Neva Masquerade cat.
The excellent physical shape, worthy of the glamorous title, is not a given but the result of the owner’s hard work. Proper nutrition and regular grooming will always help to look brilliant.
The house’s temperature regime is the first thing the owner of a Neva Masquerade cat should pay attention to. If the room is too cold, the cat’s white coat will darken and lose all its gloss. The heat in the house will lead to a loss of undercoat, and the cat will look stripped, and you may even see bald spots in the coat. A special brush with rotating teeth will help you in the fight against tangles. Be careful; the tail of a Neva Masquerade must not be brushed! Hair is very thin and easily pulled out; the hair on their tail grows extremely slowly.
Neva Masquerade cat belongs to the hunting breed. It means that it is necessary to reinforce the house’s windows; a simple mosquito net will not do. Any insect that appeared in the cat’s habitat is a sensation; it will jump everywhere and hang on curtains, trying to catch its prey in every possible way.
The Neva Masquerade cat’s imitation ability is very well developed. It can easily open a faucet and drink running water by itself, and it will have no problem doing its business on a regular toilet. The Masquerade Cat’s intellect allows it to learn easily, and it can perform simple tricks at the owner’s request.
Neva Masquerade cats are distinguished by good health and longevity; some breed representatives lived up to 20 years! A common disease is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a dangerous disease for the cat, which begins and runs almost asymptomatically but can lead to the pet’s death. Because the cat is often licked, it can then regurgitate hair or get an upset stomach.
The Neva Masquerade is a young breed, numbering only a few decades. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with felinologists when breeding her. Pregnancy lasts about 64 days, with an average of four kittens in a litter.
Neva Masquerade cat is very selective and fastidious in nutrition. Specialists recommend feeding Neva Masquerade cat industrial food, preferably of super-premium class. The amount of food you eat depends on the lifestyle your cat leads. Twice a week, it is desirable to give the Neva Masquerade for lunch meat. It should be scalded with boiling water before serving; you should not give it purely raw.
