Group 2: “Semi-long-haired” Breed designation – LPL
Long-haired cats, rare cats
History of Origin
The breed first appeared in the United States in 1982. In one of the farms in Dallas, an unusual bald kitten girl was born. They decided to keep her and named her Kerli. Four months later, the cat began to have curly hair. The owner became interested in the animal and began cross-breeding it with Mensa and Siamese cats. As a result, kittens are as curly as their mother was born. It indicated the presence of the dominant gene and marked the emergence of a new breed.
In 1987, the cat was first seen at a show. Only nine years later, the LaPerm was officially recognized by the International Cat Association. At the same time, the first standard of the breed was developed.

The cat’s neck is graceful and high, of medium length. The head has regular outlines, triangular wedge-shaped. The transition from forehead to broad muzzle is pronounced. The chin is strong; the cheekbones are high. The eyes are large, almond-shaped, slightly slanted. The ears rounded at the tips, widely spaced.
The legs of LaPerm Longhair are moderately thick and long. The hind limbs are longer than the front ones. At the end round, compact paws. The tail is long and thin. The hair of the cat is soft and curly. The color can be any color.
LaPerm Longhair is a resourceful and cheerful cat. She is very friendly to everyone around her. The pet loves her family and especially her owner. The cat requires a lot of attention and does not tolerate loneliness well. If you are often absent, the LaPerm will become moody and depressed. At the same time, the cat has a good level of adaptability; it can live in not the most comfortable conditions.
Even as an adult, the LaPerm Longhair is quite playful. Therefore, it gets along well with children, can spend a lot of time with them. With other animals, he gets along without problems; dogs are no exception. The only thing is to keep the pet away from rodents and birds not to irritate its psyche.
Long and frizzy hair should be combed out every week. It should be done carefully with a special comb. Bathe the pet once a month, preferably using organic shampoos. It is not recommended to dry hair with a hairdryer so as not to damage it.

Claws are usually trimmed several times a month. It is desirable to walk with the LaPerm on a leash. This way, you will protect the curious pet from the dangers of the outside world.
LaPerm Longhair is very smart and intelligent. It is a pleasure to raise him. A curious pet does not mind discovering new things. It is better to educate the cat from an early age. It will make it easier for the cat to understand what is required of it.
It is not difficult to train a cat in the litter box and scratching post. Also, the lapdog will not resist the leash. If you decide to train your dog in earnest, keep in mind its gentle and kind character. Don’t be rude or raise your voice at your pet. Motivate him with praise and petting, and don’t forget about delicious food. This way, you are sure to get results.
Cats of this breed have good health. Genetic abnormalities are not peculiar to them. LaPerm Longhair is prone only to obesity. Therefore, closely monitor his diet.
Parasites can attack a cat. So take regular flea and worming precautions. Take constant care of your cat’s eyes, ears, teeth, and claws. Every six months, visit the veterinarian and get the necessary vaccinations. It will keep your cat safe from infectious diseases.
This breed is not fussy about food, but it likes to eat. Provide a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. That way, your pet won’t turn into a fluffy ball. The best solution is premium dry food.
If you decide to feed your natural cat food, make sure it has enough protein, carbohydrates, and nutrients in its diet. It should be based on lean meat and by-products. Great addition will be cereals and dairy products. Do not forget about fruits, vegetables, and greens. They will enrich the pet’s body with vitamins and minerals.
