Origin History

The breed was bred in the “Red Star” kennel in the USSR. One of the dominant dogs in crossbreeding was a Riesenschnauzer. A total of 17 different breeds were used for breeding the breed.

The main area for the use of dogs was the police and military establishments. The country needed dogs that would faithfully guard essential government facilities, keep order in prisons, camps, and other institutions. Because of its qualities, the Black Russian Terrier was widely used and was the pride of Soviet science and cynologists.

The first appearance in the world of dogs was in 1955 at the Exhibition of Popular Achievement of the Economy. The International Cynologique Federation’s official standard was the breed received in 1983 and became famous among all Russian dog breeders.

Appearance

Large, robust, and muscular dog. It has a large head, voluminous body. The body is a harmoniously built, slightly stretched shape. The appearance of the dog is majestic and intimidating. The height of the male dogs c 70-78 cm, the height of bitches – 66-74 cm can fluctuate in ± 2,5 cm. The males’ weight is about 50-60 kg and the females about 45-50 kg.

The hair of the dog is thick; there is also a dense and soft undercoat. The length of the coat becomes about 5-15 cm. On the muzzle, hair forms a beard, whiskers, and eyebrows. On the limbs, the wool is long and thick; it is not cut. The color of the dog, Black, may have some gray spots.

Can easily live not only in a private home but also in an apartment. In winter, it is worth insulating the aviary if the dog lives there.
