Origin History

There is no exact information about the origin of the Bedlington Terrier. It is believed that they are descended from Rothber Terriers.

Back in the 13th century, distant relatives of these dogs lived in Great Britain, in Bedlington. In honor of which, the terriers got their name.

For a long time, dogs were used as pets. They were also taken with them on hunting trips, where Bedlington would catch foxes and birds. The pets could easily catch mice at home.

In England, these dogs were launched into city mines, where they caught rats. In 1897, the breed standard was first registered. Now the Bedlington Terrier is very popular worldwide and takes part in exhibitions, where it conquers the audience with its beauty.

Appearance

The appearance of the terrier is very unusual. This dog looks like a sheep. The peculiar shape of the head looks like a pear; the jaws are elongated. The coat of the dog resembles the coat of a lamb; it is soft and fluffy.

The height range is usually from 38 to 44 cm, bitches are a bit shorter. Weight ranges from 8 to 11 kg. A puffy white cap forms the top of the head.

The color of the nasal lobe differs depending on the color of the coat. It can be black or brown.

A dog’s eyes have a peculiarity – they must necessarily be with an angular cut of the eyelids, which gives the impression that the eyes are triangular. The color of the iris depends on the color of the coat. The ears are small, almost invisible, low down.

The body has a unique distinction – the area of the loin back has a domed curve. The coat is short, slightly silky, can be blue, papal-blue, sandy, reddish-brown.
