Origin History

Although the name of the Seychellois Longhair cat hints from Seychelles, this breed originated in Great Britain. Breeder Patricia Turner started the breed. She was inspired by reading explorers’ travel magazines, which told about a breed of cats with unique coat and color pattern patterns inhabiting Seychellois. In the 1980s, Patricia tried to reproduce the appearance of a cat living on the islands. As a result of crossing bi-colored Oriental cats with Siamese and Oriental cats, a breed was created that matched the local Seychellois breed description. It is why the breed was named the Seychellois cat.

At first, these cats were not recognized as a separate breed, but they were registered as experimental cats of unidentified color. After a long time, breeders managed to meet the requirements to present the TICA show’s breed in 1983 and at the FIFe show. At the latter, the Seychellois cat was recognized as a separate breed.

Appearance

The Seychellois Longhair cat is a breed with long hair that belongs to the oriental cat family. In appearance, it is similar to the Siamese cat, but unlike the Siamese cat, it has a white coat color. The color of the Seychellois Longhair cat can be white with colored spots all over the body, white with colored spots on the tail, head, and paws, white with colored spots on the tail and head.

She is of medium size, slender, elegant, supple, and with good musculature. The Seychellois Longhair has thin and long limbs, a wedge-shaped head, large ears, wide at the base, and rounded at the tips. The eyes are almond-shaped and slanted to the nose. The color of the eyes is bright blue, which is a distinctive feature of the breed.

At the same time, it is almost impossible to accustom them to a separate sleeping place because Seychellois is very fond of spending the night with its owner. Common Diseases

The Seychellois Longhair cat is a relatively new experimental breed, so its diseases are still being studied. The most common diseases among Seychellois cats are such as cataracts, amyloidosis, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Seychellois Longhair inherited these pathologies from Siamese cats.

Also, Seychellois cats can be diagnosed with diabetes. Symptoms of diabetes in this breed may include sudden weight gain or loss, constant thirst, frequent going to the litter box, sadness in the eyes, and lethargy for no apparent reason.
